Using mobile technology to improve HIV treatment adherence holds great promise, as demonstrated by the tremendous turnout at this week’s mHealth Summit in Washington D.C. and new research findings from the Kenya WelTel trial showing that patients who received SMS support had significantly improved HIV treatment adherence.
GHDonline plans to keep these dynamic conversations going by hosting an online panel discussion Nov. 15-19 to continue exploring how the role of cell phones and other wireless technologies in ART adherence. Expert panelists will provide initial commentary and then answer participant questions all week. Among the topics we hope to address are:
* Best ways for technology to improve adherence monitoring and intervention
* Limitations of the technology-focused approach. Is real-time adherence feasible?
* Unexplored opportunities for mHealth
Our panelists include:
* Jessica Haberer, MD, a GHDonline community moderator and an internist at Massachusetts General Hospital
* Rowena Luk, a senior engineer at Dimagi
* Seth Kalichman, PhD, a psychology professor at the University of Connecticut, editor of AIDS and Behavior and author of the blog, Denying AIDS
We look forward to your participation!
