Dear all,
I am a student of MSc in Addis Ababa University, Iam going to do a research on molecular epidemiology of M. tuberculosis, and the study area is 777km away from the laboratory, I would like to get sample from the study area of sputum and run PCR, how can I get it from the area and process it??
*Dear Opiew Owar: In Uganda we have very Xpert/RIF/MTB centres for rPCR and clustered location of LPA/Sputum culture sites in the country. We therefore have a nationwide coverage of TB speciment referral System( TSRS) with two algorithms.
**1.0; Targeting Sputum Smear negative but HIV positive cases - Xpert/RIF/MTB
**2.0; Targeting all Retreatment cases for DR-TB Surveillance.*
*The TSRS ensures that any suspect specimen in teh country can be refeered/transported to the target diagnostic sites within 24 hours.*
*In you case, (a) Where are the (location of) Xpert/RIF/MTB, Sputum culture sites where you could ship the specimen to for investiagation? (b)Do you have a reliable transport/speciment Referral mechanism that you could piggyback on?*
