MDR-TB Treatment & Prevention
IPT after TB treatment
Started by Erin Meier on 08 Feb 2011
I was interested in reading that for pts who have completed TB treatment, that they are recommending at least 6 months of IPT following treatment. I serve in Papua New Guinea, and our current national guidelines, don't include this. Currently, we decide if they have active TB or not, and either treating or giving IPT for 6 months.
I have also have had patients, both with and without HIV, who have had negative symptoms, but have a CXR that shows a miliary TB pattern. So in my setting, where TB is very prevalent (both in HIV and nonHIV pts) and where I have the ability to obtain a CXR, I use both symptoms and CXR to help determine if they need IPT or TB treatment.
