Oral immunotherapy with heat-killed Mycobacterium vaccae
Oral M vaccae has shown clinical efficacy in a phase 2a trial. This alternative/complementary/supplement product has been used along with standard TB drugs with majority of patients reaching sputum clearance within a month. The V7 oral M vaccae trial in TB has completed. With injectable M vaccae already being marketed in China, the positive results with the oral formulation should be of interest to the global TB community. Additional clinical work is clearly warranted.
