TB Infection Control Officer
Infection control has been a much neglected component of TB control
programs. Transmission of TB infection in health facilities is a serious
concern particularly where X/MDR-TB is prevalent, and a high percentage
of patients and staff is HIV infected. TB CAP recognizes the need to
rapidly develop and implement nationwide TB-IC measures to minimize the
spread of TB infection within health facilities and congregate settings.
This requires urgent development of national policy, technical
guidelines, training programs, supervision and monitoring and evaluation
systems. Coordination with and integration within already existing IC
programs is key to ensure that the implementation of TB-IC is efficient
and sustainable.
The job
TB CAP has addressed TB-IC by developing international training courses,
and providing technical assistance. The next steps are to assist
countries in finalizing and implementing national IC plans, adapt
international guidance, build a team of trainers, and provide technical
assistance on the monitoring and supervision of the implementation,
including training. The TB CAP strategy is focused on developing a
practical model that can be expanded to other countries. The job aims to
collaborate with other international partners particularly in TB CAP
focus countries or other United States Government (USG) priority
countries, mainly in Africa and Asia.
Who are we looking for
An expert in International Public Health with MPH or MSc or equivalent
degree with experience in Infection Control issues, preferably on TB.
