Building Design and Engineering Approaches to Airborne Infection Control
July 30–August 10, 2012
Boston, MA

Program Website: https://ccpe.sph.harvard.edu/AIR
Please Note: Scholarships are available for this program

This two week, multidisciplinary program provides a unique opportunity to build the global engineering capacity to help control airborne infections by bringing together a body of technical expertise common to the control of human airborne infections including:

    * Tuberculosis (including drug resistant strains)
    * H1N1 virus
    * Pandemic influenza
    * SARS
    * Selected bioterrorism agents

The program will include didactic lectures, laboratory sessions, and interactive workshops focusing on solutions which are feasible and effective for both resource-rich and resource-limited settings.

The strategies covered will be applicable to preventing transmission in workplaces including clinics, hospitals, laboratories, and congregate living settings. Experienced faculty will be drawn from Harvard, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, and other domestic and international sources.

 Who should participate:

    * Professional engineers
    * Architects
    * Health and safety specialists
    * International health workers
    * Government agency employees
    * Relief and response teams
    * Academics

Participant Experience:
“This program has equipped me with knowledge and skills to implement in my day to day work environment. It has really made a big impact on my understanding of what has to be done for building and designing laboratories. The course has given me an awakening. My qualifications will increase 30% in efficiency, and 50% in project implementation.”

About applying for the Harvard Summer Course, and who we are looking for.

While we cannot deal with individual applications in this public forum, I would like to mention that our main goal in accepting candidates for the Harvard Summer course listed below is their ability to help build capacity in this field in their region. We are looking for candidates from areas where we have had few previous trainees, where there is need for this expertise, and, of course, the candidates need to be technically qualified to benefit from the training and, in turn, by their position, able to influence building design and engineering in their area. We also accept candidates from low-burden settings and believe that the course has benefited from the dynamic interaction among the students. Most of the students stay in very nice nearby dormitories and develop close professional ties over the 2 week course. Finally, although we have been able to offer some scholarship help over the past 4 years, that all depends on the generosity of funders who we have solicited for funds. Candidates are in a stronger position if they can find at least partial sponsorship from their organization or other benefactors.

Thank you Anna
I am not sure this is the right forum for such information but the UIPC website (shown below) has all the courses outlined and we cater for all levels of IPC staff. Do communicate with me directly and we can see how we could help.
Regards
Shaheen
