Justification (IC-wise) for glass-protected counters for reception ?

Started by Gaël CLAQUIN on 17 Dec 2009

Dear community,
it is a common practice to have receptionist protected by glass counter in many countries.
Outside of cash-handling issues, it seems intuitively justified as a measure of protection against droplets, obviously not for small particles (particularly if the booth is not having top coverage/ceiling, as often seen in hot countries).
On the other hand in terms of patients-friendliness, and confidentiality (you often have to yell to be heard by the receptionist), it is clearly not desirable.

My question is therefore how justifiable would you consider this common practice for health facilities in terms of IC ?

Sounds like it does the job! Glass partitions are far better than other systems in place. These were initially installed for security purposes and for controlling the ventilation in the administration side of the partition.
I think it is reasonable from an IPC point of view.
