RE: Operating theatres and TB-IPC

Started by S. Mehtar on 14 Dec 2011

Dear All
We are faced with an interesting dilemma and I need the collective brain power of this community to help. Normally operating theatres run at 20-24 ACH of positive pressure delivered over the operating table and extracted away from the wound. We now see cases of TB, both sensitive and MDR being operated on in these theatres- I am a bit concerned about transmission. Any thoughts?
One thought I had was to increase the extraction and perhaps have a dedicated OT. I gather that is not possible.
Look forward to receiving any ideas/ comments/ suggestions.
Regards and have a joyous festive season
Shaheen
