TB Infection Control
TB Infection Control document from WHO
Started by Chris Behrens on 27 Mar 2009
Greetings - at the IUATLD meeting in Paris last year, a representative from
the WHO (I don't know his name) mentioned a draft document being prepared by
the WHO that would provide more detailed guidance on how
countries/facilities might implement the measures outlined in the WHO/CDC
"TUBERCULOSIS INFECTION CONTROL IN THE ERA OF EXPANDING HIV CARE AND
TREATMENT: Addendum to WHO Guidelines for the Prevention of Tuberculosis in
Health Care Facilities in Resource-Limited Settings, 1999".
This guidance document was supposed to be available as of January of this
year, but I have not seen or heard anything about it since. Has anyone else
seen it, or have any further knowledge about this?
Thanks
Chris Behrens

I believe the document you are looking for is the one referenced in the Link of this resource:
http://www.ghdonline.org/ic/resource/guidelines-for-tb-infection-control-in-h...
In addition, this resource provides a PDF presentation (in Download area) by Dr. Paul Jensen with specific information on TB infection control: air infection and droplets, review of infection control and review of the basics such as hierarchy of IC (administrative, Environmental, respiratory), steps for patient management, schemes for natural ventilation with photos, evaluation of room air cleaners, respiratory protections and face masks info.

WHO is also issuing an updated TB Infection Control Policy document, which may be the one you are thinking about. It is scheduled to be released in draft at the Beijing Ministerial Forum on MDR/XDR-TB next week, according to my current information.

Dear Chris,
I confirm that the WHO policy on TB infection control will be shared this week in an advanced draft version with the representatives of the 27 MDR countries participating in the Ministerial Meeting on MDR-XDR TB, on 1-3 April 2009 in Beijing. The document is undergoing final clearance and editing. I will post an announcement on GHDonline when the policy will be made available on the WHO website. Let me take this opportunity to clarify that the upcoming WHO policy on TB infection control provides guidance to countries on what to do and how to prioritize TB infection control measures at national level. It has never been in the scope of the document to provide details on how to implement interventions described in 1999 WHO guidelines and in the addendum published in 2006. These guidelines are addressed at facility level. The TB infection control subgroup of the TB/HIV Working Group of the Stop TB partnership is working on best practices and examples on how to implement selected control.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
