If you have forgotten your password or don’t know how to update your profile in GHDonline.org, then the Frequently Asked Questions page is just what you need.

Online Collaboration: Participating in the communities

When participating in online communities such as those hosted in GHDonline.org, we all at some point wonder: Can I post this? How can I access up-to-date information? In a  nutshell and in general, you should always make sure that you do not infringe any copyrights or other Intellectual Property (IP) rights. Often (but not always), you own the rights to original content work that you have personally created and authored on your own (i.e. not as part of an organization or a contract with a company for example). In an organization, you should contact the manager responsible for this (varies depending on the organization, can be a “Communications manager” or a “Training manager” for example) before posting any documents not published elsewhere. For other articles and publications, you should always refer to the publication’s or publisher’s copyrights before publishing any articles, or make sure that these are open access or use an open license such as creative commons (like articles found in the Public Library of Science – PloS). This is a bit complicated to navigate and there are lots of references on this so we have put together some resources and links to help you figure it out.

Expert Moderators

GHDonline moderators are experts in their respective fields. They work with us to identify a community's mission and topics. Moderators guide their communities by keeping discussions and resources relevant and up-to-date, and they encourage participation through inviting peers and promoting the communities at conferences, thus helping us bridge organizations and individuals worldwide.

Member Benefits

Discussions in the GHDonline.org communities reflect the broad experiences of a diverse pool of professionals working to improve the delivery of health care. As a member, you are immediately connected with thousands of colleagues working in organizations around the world. In addition, you receive expert advice from our team of moderators leading the communities, and access content and services like virtual panel discussions, peer-reviewed discussion briefs, Journal Watch reviews, and are able to apply to the UpToDate International Subscription Grant Program.

UpToDate International Grant Subscription Program

The UpToDate International Grant Subscription Program on GHDonline.org provides one-year complimentary subscriptions to UpToDate®, a leading evidence-based and peer-reviewed clinical information resource, to qualifying clinicians and organizations providing medical care or related services, including continuing medical education, to poor or underserved populations outside the United States of America. As a GHDonline member, we invite you to apply to the grant and invite colleagues to apply.

Peer-Reviewed Discussion Briefs

Volunteer experts review our Discussion Briefs, ensuring high-quality content. It can be pretty time-consuming and daunting for you and other members to read lots of replies in an online discussion to get to the information you need. This is why we are providing these peer-reviewed summaries of discussions on specific delivery challenges with key lessons learned and references. You can save them, print them, and share them with colleagues. More than 30 have been published so far and they are updated on a regular basis to reflect new learning.

Expert Panels

GHDonline.org Expert Panels are akin to virtual conferences except that there are no fees, speakers actually engage in a discussion on a volunteer basis, and members participate via email or online but without any fancy technology that would require a high internet bandwidth. Over the course of one to two weeks, sometimes before or after an actual conference or meeting, participants with similar interests and challenges discuss a specific topic. Once the panel is closed, a peer-reviewed Discussion Brief that encapsulates the nuggets from the exchange is published for members’ use.

Get Involved

In addition to joining one or several communities, there are many ways to get more involved in the work we do. You can send invitations to join the communities to your colleagues, post links to discussions in social media websites, add a PowerPoint slide showcasing a GHDonline.org discussion or community in one of your presentations at conferences or meetings, or even think about creating or moderating a community, or planning and participating in an expert panel. These are some of the ways you can work with us that is outlined in this section.

Global Health Delivery Case Library

In July 2011, The Global Health Delivery Project and Harvard Business Publishing released 21 teaching case studies in global health delivery. Each teaching case is a 13- to 19-page story describing a scenario that actually happened--complete with the constraints, including incomplete data, found in real global health situations. The teaching cases put readers in the roles of decision-makers to simulate real-life experiences and help students think through how to manage health programs in the context of a country’s political, economic and health situation. Every case study includes supplemental materials in the form of exhibits and appendices and there are accompanying teaching notes for instructors that offer suggestions to help stimulate and guide discussions. You can access these cases at no cost by signing up on the Harvard Business Publishing website.

In addition to continuing to learn from nursing colleagues, GHDonline is a very good resource on topics that are not necessarily my area of expertise. It has become a "go to" place to quickly get an overview of topics from a diverse group of providers.
