Money or die

Started by Ziad Khatib on 07 Mar 2012

Dear all,
Meant to share a recent article, entitled "Money or die".
It came out in Foreign Affairs, by a senior fellow in Global Health Larry Garrett.
http://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/137312/laurie-garrett/money-or-die

Garrett describes and discusses the recent changes in global health funding, and their potential negative impacts/consequences on global health.

This article brings up some great points of how dependent we are on the help/money of others, which can be bad when the money runs out. In Papua New Guinea, there is a disease called pigbel, which at one point we had a vaccine for. When we had the vaccine, the kids were not getting pigbel and were living. Now it is about 10 yrs since we have had the vaccine, due to money issues of not having/wanting to spend the money for it, and now numerous kids are dying from pigbel, It is sad.
