NCD Prevention: Demand of High tax on unsafe foods
Started by Syed Mahbubul Alam on 19 Jun 2012
Some NGOs demanded high tax on hurtful food items as fast foods and junk foods, soft drinks, energy drinks, canned juice etc. for control and prevention of non-communicable diseases like cancer, diabetics, heart attack and high blood pressure. WBB Trust, Protyasha Anti-Drugs club, Green Mind Society, Serac Bangladesh, and Arunodoyer Tarun Dal jointly made the demand from a demonstration in front of The Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka at 11.00 AM today.
The speakers said, smoking and drugs, fast foods and junk foods, soft drinks and energy drinks as well as canned juice are available in market and companies advertise these products to attract youth and children. These foods are harmful for health. As a result, children and youth are also being infected by many non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetics, obesity, and depression. So, advertisements for such products are to be banned. more: http://www.wbbtrust.org/organization.php?oid=168

Each country or organization has a way to handle certain problems. Especially when some countries, don't have a national laboratory for analysis of products (imported or produced) locally. Personally, I think it's a bad gait to demand high tax on food items as fast foods and junk foods, soft drinks, energy drinks, canned juice etc.. and to ban advertisement for Such products.

I am confused regarding people health lots of people are concern. We are
talking about high tax and also in another way we are encouraging it
through media and making available in our market and also it is becoming
fashion food for the younger there who is our target grroups is it consumer
or it needs to target the producer, policy maker, distributer.
where we need to give our concentration if we really mean better health
of the future generation.
It is time to think about regarding the future generations role and
responsbility.
