Global Health Nursing & Midwifery
24-Hour Virtual International Day of the Midwife: May 5, 2010
Started by Maggie Sullivan on 30 Apr 2010
Dr Deborah Davis (University of Technology, Sydney, Australia) and Sarah Stewart (Otago Polytechnic Education Development Centre, Dunedin, New Zealand) would like to invite you to celebrate International Day of the Midwife on May 5th 2010 by joining us at some stage during the 24 hour Virtual International Day of the Midwife event. We would like to hear from midwives or student midwives in every time zone who would like to be involved in this unique, innovative celebration of midwifery and childbirth. Events will range from 'live' or real time presentations and discussions via web conference, Twitter conversations, meetings in Second Life, to recordings of podcasts and video, and publishing photos.
Some ideas:
•Live formal presentation in virtual classroom
•Live meeting to have a chat, maybe to compare midwifery or share experiences with students
•Twitter discussion
•Post a video on YouTube or photo(s) on Flickr about IDM, your midwifery practice or something of interest to midwives
•Post a presentation on Slideshare
•Organise a team of midwives to edit an entry in Wikipedia about midwifery and childbirth.
•Write a blog post
•Lead a discussion on an email discussion list or bulletin board
•Start a discussion on one of the midwifery groups in Facebook
•Meeting in Second Life
How to contact us:
If you would like to be involved either in organising an event, presenting at a web conference, attending a meeting, advertising the event or any other way, either
•leave a message on the Discussion section of this page: Discussion Page
•add your name & event to the planning page: International Day of the Midwife 2010.
•email Sarah Stewart:
•leave a comment on Sarah's blog here.
•Contact Sarah on Twitter: @SarahStewart
You do not have to use English for your presentation or session - by using a language other than English, you'll bring richness to this event. It will also allow us to reach more midwives.
