guides for engaging in global health experiences

Does anyone know of guides for nursing students (or nurses in general) who are interested in engaging in global health experiences? I'm looking for any material that addresses how students ought to prepare for global health experiences, ranging from how they should approach their work in general to what they should pack!

Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

Erin, this is a fantastic question! I attended the 2009 GHEC (Global Health Education Consortium) Conference and kept a very useful one-page handout they distributed, titled "Preparing for Overseas Work." I've referred to it ever since. Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions (I may have transposed something in re-typing this). Please also let me know if you need any other suggestions and I'd be happy to track down some more, especially regarding specific locations/health projects as the packing and preparation can vary greatly.

As a last thought, I would also include the GHEC bibliography as a reference. It is quite extensive, but well-categorized and may include more up to date resources than my 2009 handout:

Good luck and let us know if you need anything else!

I have been put in charge of preparing a project for Advancing Midwifery and Neonatology for Nurses in China. Can anyone provide me resources to whom I should approach for Expert Speakers and/or resources?
