For nurses in the Boston area who work with the Haitian immigrant population or in Haiti or who are just interested in learning Haitian Creole, see below for details about a wonderful opportunity provided by Physicians for Haiti.

******
We are pleased to announce that registration is open for our fall Haitian Creole Learning, but classes are filling quickly! This semester we will have two courses.

Beginner Haitian Creole:
Day of the week: Wednesday
First Class: Weds Sept 18th and every week thereafter x nine weeks
Time: 7pm to 9pm
Location: Boston University Medical Campus, Boston, Room TBD
Course Fee: $100, donation to Physicians for Haiti. Class materials/text provided free of charge.
Goal: This is a class meant for those with little to no background in Haitian Creole, or those who speak French and want to transition into learning Haitian Creole. There will be some focus on medical terms, but it is meant to be a broad base of everyday Creole.

Conversational Haitian Creole:
Day of the week: Thursday
First Class: Thurs Oct 3rd, and every week thereafter x ten weeks
Time: 7pm to 0pm
Location: Boston University Medical Campus, Boston, Room TBD
Course Fee: $100, donation to Physicians for Haiti. Class materials/text provided free of charge.
Goal: This is meant for those who feel comfortable carrying on basic conversations in Haitian Creole, but want to gain comfort, confidence and an expanded vocabulary. Great for those who have taken beginner Creole previously, or those who have taken the conversational class before and want to keep up their skills. There will be some focus on medical terms, but it is meant to be a broad conversational course.

Tutoring in Haitian Creole:
New this semester, we have a limited availability to provide one-on-one tutoring in Haitian Creole from native speakers. This can be done as an adjunct to your Haitian Creole course, or separately if your schedule does not work with the class schedule. You and the tutor will perform an initial assessment to determine your level and goals and then make a tutoring plan. The cost is $15 per hour, with the fee being a donation to Physicians for Haiti. Location and times for tutoring determined by the tutor and learner based on mutual convenience.

To register or if you have questions: Send an email to with your name and the class level. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis.

Peace,
Chris & Physicians for Haiti
