HI Donna
expand commentI joined the Global Heatlh Nursing and Midwifery discussion to learn more about what nursing colleagues are doing and to get updates on opportunities for grants, educational experiences and service. I lead a service learning and research project at UMass Boston in partnership with the University of Nairobi and the Kijabe and Tumutumu Hospital Schools of Nursing. We are focused in the area of NCD, specifically CVD and hope to have some publications soon that I could share with this group. I also read the YP NCD group postings and find that grup to be rich in resources for practice and policy. I would like to see us begin to share content like the YP group among nursing on the list - but recognize the time it takes to post. I would like to know more about the various global health programs at service organizations like MGH and the Brigham as well as groups like PIH - and the international programs at universities like UA Birmingham, Duke and Penn in the US and others around the world. It would be wonderful to have a site that anyone around the world could go to to find expertise in the various areas ...

I very much value the discussions in the Global Health Nursing and Midwifery Discussion group - my challenge is time with so many commitments and also other online communities of practice...
I have one question I am currently dealing with her at the Unviersity of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and wonder if others could share their experiences...our Student Health Service is requiring even short-term international visitors who are here for our programs to get chest xrays and also show proof of two MMR vaccines...These requirements seem excessive and they are also expensive...could you tell me about requirements for health clearance from your universities for international visitors who are coming for short-term NON CLINICAL scholarly visits or exchanges? Many thanks! Lynda Wilson, UAB School of Nursing

Dear Donna,
I joined the Global Health Nursing and Midwifery community to share ideas, experiences, questions, discussions and resources with the nursing/midwifery colleagues around the world; learn and update about what nursing/midwifery colleagues are doing in order to support in improving and strengthening nursing/midwifery services in under-resourced areas; and network for the collaboration opportunities.
I am a co-founding member of the first and only nurses led Birth/Reproductive Health Centre and Midwifery Society of Nepal (MIDSON) established in 2007 and 2010 respectively.
Since 2009 through MIDSON I have been facilitating the University of British Columbia, Canada and University of Surrey, UK midwife students for their elective placements in the public hospitals in Nepal. I would be happy to facilitate if any professionals and/or universities would like to collaborate with the Medical/Nursing Colleges, Professional organizations and Hospitals in Nepal.

Hi Eileen,
I too am interested in learning more about nursing colleagues work in Global
Health Nursing. As a nursing community we have much to share and learn from each
others experiences. I am interested in learning more about your research project
and would welcome an opportunity to discuss with you.
Have you find any funding grants or travel grant resources that you are
willing to share?
I am currently a research nurse and DNP student with a focus in global health
and am searching for a travel grant to support my DNP work.
Thank-you,
Catherine Ricciardi

Hi Eileen (and everybody else):
Fascinating project. Hope you (and anyone else doing work in nursing or midwifery related to NCDs, especially if it has a CVD component, submit abstracts to the World Congress of Cardiology held April 18-21 2012 in Dubai: http://www.world-heart-federation.org/congress-and-events/world-congress-of-cardiology-scientific-sessions-2012/abstract-based-programme/
