The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing, which has been designated as a Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center on International Nursing, will host a 3-week International Nursing Leadership and Management Program July 6-23, 2010. The program will target nurses from Latin America and Zambia, and will be co-sponsored by the UAB Sparkman Institute for Global Health. The program will include:

* an interactive class focused on application of leadership principles to common issues faced by nurses in clinical practice as well as in teaching and research settings;
* the opportunity to develop individual leadership projects in collaboration with UAB faculty and other institute participants; and

 * the opportunity to participate in classes focused on English for health professionals offered by the UAB English Language and Culture Institute. Program requires basic English proficiency.

Participants will live with a volunteer host family for an authentic experience of American life and culture. Host families will provide housing as well as breakfast and dinner each day at no cost to participants. The estimated cost (including the English classes) is $1,550 - $1,750 if participants live with host families, or $2000-$2200 if they live in university housing PLUS cost of airfare, lunches, and miscellaneous personal expenses. The cost may vary depending on cost of insurance, and whether participants enroll in the English classes.

Deadline to register: March 1, 2010
