PEPFAR Country Profiles: Updated January 2009

Started by Maggie Sullivan on 24 Aug 2009

PEPFAR: Recognizing the global HIV/AIDS pandemic as one of the greatest health challenges of our time, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) was launched in 2003 - the largest international public health initiative aimed at a single disease that any nation has ever undertaken.

Working in partnership with host nations, over ten years PEPFAR plans to support treatment for at least 3 million people; prevention of 12 million new infections; and care for 12 million people, including 5 million orphans and vulnerable children. To meet these goals, PEPFAR will support training of at least 140,000 new health care workers in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care.
