After reading the UN's "Facts and Figures on Women Worldwide," one wonders why it took years of negotiations to establish this entity. From poverty, to education, health, violence, power and the media, the UN describes how women are disproportionately negatively effected. It is also striking to me that gender equality is now considered to be a goal in and of itself, in addition to a means to acheive all the Millenium Development Goals. Thank you so much for posting this Nayana.
