Here is the Lifebox site address . As part of the WHO Safe Surgery initiative and follow up to the Safe Surgery Saves Lives Checklist, medical equipment manufacturers were challenged to design a durable and affordable pulse oximeter that could fill the pulse oximetry gap for surgery worldwide. This product is the result .

Every OR should have access to audible pulse oximetry.

Hi Juan

My name's Sarah, I'm the project manager for Lifebox (www.lifebox.org). Thanks for your inquiry.

Lifebox is a charity working to address the growing number of operations taking place worldwide without a pulse oximeter or basic safety checks.

There are more than 77,000 operating rooms worldwide that lack access to a pulse oximeter, the single most important piece of monitoring equipment in modern anaesthesia [see: Global operating theatre distribution and pulse oximetry supply: an estimation from reported data - Lancet 2010 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20598365] .

Lifebox has developed the ideal pulse oximeter for use in operating rooms in low-resource countries. It is robust, intuitive, runs on both disposable and rechargeable batteries, and comes with an education CD Rom packed with materials for classroom learning and self-teaching about pulse oximetry and the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.

These materials are also available free for download on our website: www.lifebox.org/education

Each oximeter package costs $250 including delivery, with spare universal and neonatal probes available at $25 each.

Lifebox sells oximeters to facilities in low and lower-middle income countries, and raises funds to donate them where there is need.
