Haiti health facilities

Started by lyle karim on 27 Apr 2010

As the relief effort in Haiti has continued, many groups assisting in medical care have been frustrated by not having information about the locations and capacity of health care facilities in Haiti. Had better information been available prior to the earthquake, delivering medical care after the earthquake would have been much easier to coordinate.

Wanting to do something about this problem, many organizations have come together to try to improve this problem. Under the leadership of PAHO (Pan American Health Organization), a variety of organizations have worked to gather this information. These organizations include the World Health Organization, USAID, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Google, Sahana, Crises Common, Ushahidi, CDC, Direct Relief International and many more. You can see a list of health care facilities in Haiti at: http://sites.google.com/a/netspective.org/haiti-health-facilities/home

In order to make this information useful, your help is very much needed. We need to get information from people and organizations who have worked in Haiti for many years. As you might see when you look at the information listed at www.travax.com/m, ancillary data is needed for each record. Geolocations need confirmation. If you will be providing surgical care in one of these facilities, please enter the dates of the trip and specialty in the Comments section so that others will know of it. Help the Haitian health system by contributing to this database.
