Field Based HIV Testing & Counseling

Started by Mike McKay on 26 Jul 2008

In Malawi we (Baobab) have been guiding and collecting data for HIV testing and counseling sessions using touchscreen clinical workstations at static HTC sites. But now fewer people are coming to the HTC centers (probably because most nearby residents have already been tested) and our partner is performing the majority of tests in the field. The field strategy uses a combination of motorcycles, tents, mobile testing vans and paper forms. We are working with them to adopt some kind of real time electronic data collection approach. Currently the OpenROSA (www.openrosa.org) project and specifically JavaROSA (cell phone based data collection) looks to have the most potential but it seems like their systems aren't quite ready. EpiSurveyor and EpiHandy look like potential options as well. Does anybody have any experiences they could share around field based HTC with electronic data collection?
