    Website: http://www.tiyatienhealth.org Type: Non-Governmental Organization Country: Liberia About: Tiyatien Health is a 501(c)(3) non-profit social justice organization that builds equitable models of primary healthcare within the public sector. Organized as a unique partnership between rural communities and Liberia- and US-based health professionals Tiyatien, meaning "truth" and "justice" in a local Liberian dialect, promotes equity by advancing healthcare services and the fundamental rights of the poor. In February 2007, Tiyatien Health, in partnership with the Liberian Ministry of Health and the National AIDS Control Program, launched the HIV Equity Initiative – Liberia’s first comprehensive, community-based HIV treatment program – at the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County. The HIV Equity Initiative (HEI) has successfully provided comprehensive health and social services to a growing group of over 100 HIV-infected individuals. The backbone of HEI’s success is its network of community health workers, called “accompaniers,” who provide long-term medical, moral and psychosocial support to HIV-positive individuals and their communities.

    Website: http://haiti.nd.edu/ Type: Academic Institution Country: Haiti About: Working to address neglected diseases in Haiti through both research and public health interventions--focusing on lymphatic filariasis (LF), soil-transmitted helminths (STH), and iodine deficiency disorders (IDD). Current projects include the delivery of double-fortified salt (with iodine and diethylcarbamazine) through the existing local salt economy.
