About: Dr James McCord opened McCord Hospital in May 1909 to provide medical care to the Zulu people of Durban, South Africa. This small, efficient hospital now provides top quality, affordable healthcare for all population groups. The hospital is a centre for health education, training and research locally and internationally, and has an impact well beyond its size and location.
McCord Hospital is a busy Hospital, seeing 148 000 outpatients and having 11 000 admissions per annum. Services offered include Internal Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology and Outpatients.
The hospital holds a unique position in providing affordable, quality medical services to the people of Durban. From its beginnings as a Mission Hospital providing services to underserved people at the turn of the century, to its current status as an institution which is managed along business lines for the provision of medical and nursing services, there has been an unwavering commitment to the provision of high quality medical care through dedicated and well trained staff.
