About Eric Shiroma
I am currently a ScD student in Epidemiology. I have received a MS in Epidemiology from the Medical University of South Carolina. I have also received a MEd in Exercise Physiology and a BS in Biology from the University of Virginia. My current research interest centers around physical activity and chronic disease. I interned at the NIH this past summer working on a meta-analysis of gestational diabetes. My current projects examine the specific amount of physical activity associated with various health outcomes or their prevention. I am also very interested in the increasing burden of chronic disease in the developing world, primarily related to nutrition and physical activity.
My previous work includes experience as a a program coordinator in student affairs at the University of Virginia, practicum in cardiovascular medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as an operations and admissions officer for a long term acute care facility in South Carolina.
