Bio:
I'm a co-founder and the Malawi-based Field Director for FrontlineSMS:Medic, a nonprofit I started with a few friends to help health workers use mobile phones to improve care in poor communities. I recently completed a bachelors degree in biochemistry & molecular biology at Lewis & Clark, and will be working in Africa (especially Malawi) for at least two years before I move back north for graduate school. I enjoy informatics, global health, anthropology, serial entrepreneurship, and red letter Christians. I love my job, though I miss my beloved Cascadia.

About: FrontlineSMS:Medic is a team committed to supporting community health workers (CHWs) in the developing world using appropriate mobile technology. FrontlineSMS is a free software platform enabling large-scale, two-way text messaging using a laptop, mobile phones, and a GSM signal. Introduced as a valuable tool for rural healthcare providers in the Mobiles in Malawi pilot, FrontlineSMS is the centerpiece of an SMS network connecting remote CHWs and their patients to a hospital and its resources. Local ownership, the extreme usability of FrontlineSMS, low-cost and available technology, and the CHWs’ dedication to their communities produced a valuable program for a rural hospital serving 250,000 people. Based on the success of the Malawi pilot, FrontlineSMS:Medic is supporting global partners as they implement FrontlineSMS to strengthen healthcare delivery.
