Marina Shulgina replied to "Disposal of ZN stained slide" in the MDR-TB Treatment & Prevention community.
Dear Zea, I am again reffering you to the WHO guidelines "Laboratory services in tubculosis control", part 1:Organization and management, page 39 "Waste disposal". It is recommended there to break and burn/bury positive slides and wash and reuse negative ones. However in my country it is recommended to sterilize all slides, destroy positive ones after sterilization and use negative slides niot for ZN microscopy.

There is a tool to estimate risk ratio described there. Best regards, M. Shulgina

Dear Mark, Usually minimal volume of tests and lab proficiency are not directly connected in international documents. Of course the more tests laboratory does the more proficient it can be. However, poorly trained, staffed, motivATED ETC, laboratory will not be proficient no matter how many tests are done dayly. Number of tests to be done by a laboratory depends on the need of the programme, staff and equipment. In some cases laboratories with low volume ...
