Paul A. Jensen, PhD, PE, CIH started a discussion "Re: [TB Infection Control] issues on defective biosafety cabinet" in the TB Infection Control community.
Dear Grace: I concur with Dr First. I have seen "reverse flow" many times . . . And in EVERY case, either the exhaust/roof blower was under-sized or the exhaust/roof blower was simply not operational! There are generally two alarms on BSC Class II B2s . . . One for the supply and one for the exhaust. Not sure which Baker model you have or which alarm(s) sounded! Regards, Paul J Link to complete discussion ...

I will not be able to access the internet until this evening; however, I believe these are the same room air cleaners (with UV inside) that Ed and I saw at PMH MDR/XDR TB Department. Am I correct? If this is true, then all I can say at this time is that if the units are 100% effective (which has not been verified) in inactivating airborne MTB, ...

Paul A. Jensen, PhD, PE, CIH started a discussion "Clean Air Delivery Rate – Follow-up on Bacticlean units/UV Lights installation in Botswana discussion" in the TB Infection Control community.
Excellent points made by John in the discussion on Bacticlean units and the installation of UV lights at Princess Marina Hospital TB wards in Botswana: http://www.ghdonline.org/ic/discussion/re-bulk-re-tb-infection-control-infectious-dose-of/. Please allow me to take it one further step. The clean air delivery rate is dependent on the residence time of the particles in the unit exposed to UVGI (some CFD modelers would call this "age of aerosol") and the minimum UVG irradiance level) not, with proper design, the ...

Paul A. Jensen, PhD, PE, CIH started a discussion "Tribute to Victor Alexandrovich Pronkov" in the TB Infection Control community.
Viktor Alexandrovich is a great friend and colleague. I say "is" because he will always be near me in spirit. Viktor Alexandrovich and I spent a lot of time together while working in Russia. We worked hard and played hard. I learned so much from him about Russian culture and how similar our ideologies really are. I remember him telling me a story from his student days (he was somewhat of a rebel). There was ...
