Thea Zuccotti replied to "distance between patients_hospitalization & waiting area" in the TB Infection Control community.

Thank you for your comments, the concept of “low density” is very clear to me, as well as all needed environmental measures to be set up. I’ll stay with those general recommendations without providing an easy-to-be-applied rule (as minimum 1m between patients in the waiting area) which could become a too strict advice. Thank you for your contributions Thea PS. Ed, of course: TB droplet nuclei (!) sorry for the “lapsus” PPS. Shaheen: is the ...

Thea Zuccotti started a discussion "distance between patients_hospitalization & waiting area" in the TB Infection Control community.

Dear members, I have two questions I would like to share with you: 1)some texts are recommending at least 1m distance between beds for TB hospitalization wards. BUT: am I correct saying that BCG droplet is far too little (and to light) to be falling down in just 1m? 2)if, on the contrary, this recommendation should be taken as good for hospitalization wards, should we assume that the same distance (1m) is to be recommended ...

Thea Zuccotti replied to "Transportation of treated/ untreated TB Patients" in the TB Infection Control community.

Dear Pietie, just a little addition to what have already been told until now: concerning reference materials on this subject, you can find a short document in the Francis J. Curry web site called “What precautions should be taken when transporting a TB Patient?” (http://www.nationaltbcenter.edu/abouttb/tbcontrol_faqs/14_precautions_transporting_tb_patient.pdf) greetings Thea Zuccotti

Thea Zuccotti replied to "Problems with ultraviolet air disinfection in high burden settings" in the TB Infection Control community.

Dear Dr. Edward and Dear Hans, thank you for having brought this very important and interesting topic under the spotlights of this community. Totally agreeing with Dr. Shaneen (and others) with the UNQUESTIONABLE importance of managerial and administrative measures as first priority in a TB setting, recognizing the high impact of a correct respirators' program in place, I will try to base my contribution to this discussion specifically on environmental controls interventions (design, installation and ...

Thea Zuccotti replied to "Problems with UVGI air disinfection in high burden settings" in the TB Infection Control community.

Dear all, it is very difficult to give an “absolute answer” about UVGI installations. It is important to note that UVGI installation is much cheaper (more sustainable) then, for example, a mechanical ventilation system. Both in terms of installation as well as in terms of maintenance. UVGI installation is a very good solution in particular for cold countries where the fact of providing ACH means as well to continuously heat the cold air coming from ...
