It was formed in June 2008 during the Cambridge workshop on trials for drug-resistant TB with the goals of increasing awareness of the DR-TB problem; promoting the design and implementation of clinical trials to provide the tools needed to control and eliminate DR-TB; and ensuring implementation of these tools in all areas of the world affected by DR-TB. RESIST-TB includes committees focused on Prophylaxis, Treatment Shortening, Drug Efficacy, and Site Capacity Development, which encourage new members to join and participate. Salmaan Keshavjee, Assistant Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine at HMS, and KJ Seung, MDR-TB Program Officer for the Partners In Health Lesotho Project, were the lead authors of this 2008 White Paper prepared by Partners In Health for the Institute of Medicine. It was subsequently published as an appendix to Addressing the Threat of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis: A Realistic Assessment of the Challenge.
