How can we improve the provision of high quality care?     Join the Quality & Safety Community

Hello Y-Pers,

Our very own Y-Per (Steven van de Vijver) had the paper below recently published that reviews the evidence for community based interventions for prevention of CVD in LMICs.

The paper is timely given them recent developments in the NCD global agenda and the need for evidence on what works in resource-constrained settings.

Happy reading!

Catherine

Title: Intro and US CDC New Interactive Atlas of Heart Disease and Stroke

Discussion contents:
"Hi all, thank you for the interesting discussions and chance to join.

My name is Julia Chang and I'm studying medicine at the University of California in Los Angeles. Currently taking a year to complete an epidemiology fellowship in Atlanta at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the Division of Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention.

Below is info that might interest some of you about how the CDC is mapping cardiovascular conditions and outcome indicators-- many fascinating layers.
Please feel free to share or contact me if you have comments or would like more information.

The Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created an online mapping tool that documents geographic disparities in the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) at the local level. Users can create county-level maps of nine different CVD outcomes, by gender, race/ethnicity, and age group, and can overlay maps with congressional boundaries and locations of health care facilities. Users can also view maps showing county-level social determinants of health and health services, including poverty, education, and the food environment.

The Atlas is a valuable tool for public health professionals, researchers, community leaders, and others interested in monitoring CVD trends, setting research priorities, and planning patient services.

With the Interactive Atlas of Heart Disease and Stroke you can
• Create interactive maps and tables of CVD data by race/ethnicity, gender, and age group.
• Print or save maps to share with colleagues or use in presentations and reports.
• View maps side by side to compare indicators or geographic features.
• Generate reports for your targeted regions of interest.
• View a histogram to see the distribution of data displayed on a map.
