I live in Minnesota and am a volunteer working with a hospital in Guinea West Africa which currently has no internet connection, and cannot afford satellite connection.
We are looking for an inexpensive solution. Our current thinking is to use a high gain antenna connected to some hardware that converts the cell phone signal to be used for basic email and texting. We don't know if this will work, but it's the best idea we've come up with so far. The cell phone tower is about 7 miles from the hospital and people have told us that if they walk up a small hill beside the hospital they can get reception, so we are hopeful that by putting an antenna up about 30 feet we can get a signal. We are planning a trip to try this out around April/May of 2015. We would like to begin implementing a basic EMR, and a few other tools, but we need internet connectivity.
Has anyone tried something similar to this and have you been successful?
Any ideas or recommendations are appreciated.
