Bio

Dr Catharina Boehme leads FIND, an international non-profit organization based in Geneva, Switzerland that supports the development and delivery of much-needed diagnostic tests for diseases of poverty, including tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis C, HIV and neglected tropical diseases. Since its creation in 2003, FIND has supported the delivery of 11 new tests and created an enabling environment for countless more through its specimen banks, reagent development and better market visibility. FIND’s achievements have helped increase the global prioritization of diagnostics and in many cases revolutionized the diagnostics landscape. Dr Boehme has her M.D. in Internal Medicine from Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany, and diplomas in Public Health and in Management & Leadership. Prior to joining FIND in 2005, Dr Boehme worked as programme coordinator for the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases in Munich and established a TB research unit at Mbeya Medical Research Program in Tanzania.

Jim Gallarda is a Senior Program Officer with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle, WA. He has over 25 years of industry experience in development of commercial infectious disease and oncology-related companion diagnostics. During his tenure at Abbott Laboratories and Roche Molecular Diagnostics, he oversaw multiple teams developing immunodiagnostic & PCR systems for HIV-1, HIV-2, HCV, HBV and West Nile Virus. While at Roche Molecular, Jim obtained an MBA and eventually lead its global business for Genomics & Oncology. Afterwards, he moved into Novartis Pharmaceuticals as a diagnostic lead overseeing development of a companion diagnostic for tyrosine kinase inhibitors in chronic myeloid leukemia. He now serves as a diagnostic lead for the Foundation’s efforts in tuberculosis, and has oversight for investments in next generation sequencing and other molecular applications in global health

Prof Madhukar Pai, MD, PhD is a Canada Research Chair in Translational Epidemiology & Global Health at McGill University, Montreal. He is the Director of McGill Global Health Programs, and Associate Director of the McGill International TB Centre. Madhu serves as a Consultant to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He serves on the STAG-TB committee of WHO, Geneva; Scientific Advisory Committee of FIND, Geneva; and Access Advisory Committee of TB Alliance, New York. He has previously served on the Coordinating Board of the Stop TB Partnership.

Bio

Sonjelle, MPH, started her career in public health as the Director of Operations of a community-based health outreach organization with a focus on HIV/AIDS, in rural Ghana, and has ten years of experience in program implementation, monitoring and evaluations spanning grassroots to global levels. Her time in Ghana cemented her dedication to public health approaches that are collaboratively designed and implemented with rigorous and meaningful data capture. Sonjelle joined FIND in January 2017 as the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer focusing on Hepatitis C.

Sophia Georghiou

Bio

Sophia is a molecular epidemiologist with postgraduate training in molecular biology (MS) and global health (PhD) from the University of California San Diego. She has 10 years of infectious disease research experience, working with many different academic institutions, clinical laboratories and industry partners, and has contributed to a diversity of NTD, HIV and TB research projects. Sophia joined FIND in August of 2016 as a Junior Scientific Officer in the organization’s TB programme.
