Dr. Poonam Dhavan is the Migration Health Programme Coordinator for the IOM Migration Health Division at HQ, Geneva. Dr. Dhavan is the thematic lead and resource person for Health Promotion and Assistance to Migrants. In this position, she is responsible for providing technical advice on migration health matters; plan, oversee and evaluate migration health programme activities including migration and health programmes on HIV, TB, Malaria, non-communicable diseases, sexual and reproductive health; perform liaison and advocacy functions and integrate migration health into other migration management areas such as labour migration, counter-trafficking, at IOM. Prior to this position, Dr. Dhavan was the Senior Public Health and Research Specialist at the Global Migration Health Support Unit of IOM in Manila. Dr. Dhavan is trained as a medical doctor, epidemiologist and (global) public health specialist, in India and the United States of America, with over fourteen years’ medical and public health work experience. Before joining IOM, she has worked at the World Health Organization, the University of Texas Health Science Centre and the Public Health Foundation of India.
